CORNING, NY (WENY-TV)---The former Steuben Glass factory now sits barren--no workers going in, no glass coming out but pretty soon this old factory will have new life.

We are moving into the former Steuben factory to create a new and larger space,?says Karol Wight, Executive Director of the Corning Museum of Glass.

Corning, Incorporated is putting $64 million dollars into the expansion.

This is a significant influx of funds from Corning, Incorporated and we're tremendously grateful for their support, says Wight.

The expansion means more space for the contemporary art collection and a bigger hot glass show.

We lack the capacity for the number of visitors we have sometimes, especially in the summer,?says Wight.

The expansion should take about two years and it won't interfere with the museum's current operations.

We should be able to control visitorship (sic) and circulation through the building and the current plants we have in place are really minimizing the impact for the visitors,?says Wight.

It was important to the executive director to make sure the project moves forward while maintaining the Steuben legacy.

We're trying to maintain the shape of the building and that in itself is kind of an honorific moment for Steuben, says Wight.

Groundbreaking for the move is set for later this spring with an anticipated opening date of 2014.
