Co Londonderry glassware company Fire Glass Direct Ireland is to create 40 new jobs in a £1 million expansion plan.

The Magherafelt-based business which manufactures fire and safety glass was established in 2004 and the cash injection means its workforce will be boosted to 77.

Seamus O'Connor, Director of Fire Glass Direct, said: "This investment marks a major expansion for us, almost doubling our workforce, and is a reflection of our confidence in the potential of our new products to significantly increase our turnover and market reach."

The project at Fire Glass Direct Ireland has been supported by Invest NI's Jobs Fund, which aims to create 4,000 jobs by March 2014.

Thirty-four of the planned 40 jobs have already been created and Des Gartland, Manager of Invest NI's North-west Regional Office, said: "These new skilled jobs are very welcome in Mid Ulster where the construction sector in particular has been badly hit by the economic downturn."
