Blown away by glass event

A WOMAN who packed in a catering career after 20 years in the trade to start her own glassworks business held a “fantastically successful” open weekend over Easter at her new north Suffolk base.

Sally McSheehy started Phoenix Glassworks in 2005, and in 2011, she moved to an old army bunker in Denham where last weekend’s open event was held.

Over the course of the extended open weekend, which ran from Good Friday to Easter Monday, more than 80 people came to visit Miss McSheehy’s Oak Studio in Shingle Hill, resulting in her selling a number of pieces, booking people onto some of the glasswork courses she offers, and getting commissions for future glassworks.

She said: “The open weekend could not have gone any better - it was fantastically successful, and I was blown away by the phenomenal amount of people who came out to have a look.”

Miss McSheehy has been making decorative glass pieces since 2002. “I was always fascinated by church windows, and I just love the colours,” she said.

She also produces a range of recycled bottle artworks, including items such as champagne cheese boards.

Miss McSheehy now hopes to host another open weekend in the summer.
