Strong construction market in Scandinavia

Post Time:May 21,2008Classify:Industry NewsView:712

The Scandinavian construction boom continues apace, with the latest figures showing that it will carry on for many years to come.

Having experienced a construction boom in Scandinavia for a number of years, it is pleasing to note that market conditions remain brisk in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

The construction industry is working at full speed. The latest figures* show that the value of construction projects started has grown by around 10% per year for the last 6-7 years, reaching new heights in recent years of almost 15% per year. These trends show that the boom will continue for many years to come.

The main reason for this is that significant investments are currently being made in both infrastructure and commercial properties, whilst the demand for housing continues to rise in line with population figures. The Öresund region is one of the most expansive parts of Scandinavia, and it is here that much of this investment is taking place.

Success brings its own problems

However, the success of the construction industry does create problems. There is a real shortage of labour, and many major construction projects are not being started due to a lack of construction workers. Colleges are training new workers at full pace, but the need is urgent and there are not enough trained workers. More and more companies are therefore looking to other countries to supply their workforce needs.

Another problem is the fact that supplies of building materials and construction equipment are starting to run out. Combined with long delivery times, a shortage of materials and equipment is forcing construction companies to seek alternative solutions. These include turning to suppliers outside Scandinavia or looking into other types of materials and building technologies.

The Scandinavian construction industry comes together at ScandBuild 2009

During the last week of March 2009, decision-makers from the Scandinavian construction industry will come together for inspiration and an overview of where the industry is headed in the future. The products, technologies and services which will take the industry there will be presented in a well-planned venue which combines product displays with talks, conferences, themed displays and one-to-one meetings.

ScandBuild 2009 will offer an excellent opportunity for all suppliers looking for ways to break into the Scandinavian market, representing an effective way to reach a large number of decision-makers in a single location.
