CEO Jerry Lemieux showing glass before and after SORG

In the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Sorg just commissioned an oxy-fuel melter on a site where a sign read, „The world’s largest electric melter“. The beauty of the landscape belies the current economic realities of this area. This region is suffering from sustained high unemployment and having a new glass plant failing shortly after startup was an another economic blow.

Sorg wrote a demolition scope for a failed electric melter still full of frozen glass with a very cold layer of batch on top.

After being given the site, SORG installed a 250t/d oxy-fuel furnace together with a Luehr bag house filter.

Sorg was responsible for engineering, all material procurement which was primarily sourced in the United States as well using US contractors for construction. This was a large job for SORG and the site was nine time zones away from Lohr.

Bennu had the job of recommissioning IS machines as well as cold end equipment.

Thanks to the high quality of the suppliers SORG chose as well as tireless efforts of our site supervisors, this job was completed on time to the praise of our customer; Bennu Glass. Whereas with the original furnace that always required management’s attention, CEO Jerry Lemieux says, “The SORG furnace is like breathing. You don’t think about it. It runs automatically.”

Sorg wishes Bennu success in resurrecting this glass plant in this economically depressed area.
