Deployment of USB based Two-factor authentication reduces IT helpdesk burden while helping remote staff and partners become more productive

ALTON, HAMPSHIRE, 22nd JULY, 2008 — AN4 Group, one of the UK’s most respected technology product and solution providers, today announced the successful completion of a security project at AC Yule & Son Ltd, one of the UK's largest Glass, Aluminium and PVCu manufacture supply companies.

With over 400 staff spread across offices and processing facilities in Aberdeen, Elgin, Livingston, Clydebank, Boldon and Forfar, AC Yule & Son Ltd increasingly needs to provide access to its core Citrix applications to staff and partners across the UK. As Steven Ward, Group IT Manager for AC Yule & Son Ltd explains, “We have used an IPsec client technology for a number of years and although it is very secure – it is difficult to manage and our help desk always has a steady stream of calls regarding user issues with it.”

Over the last few years, with the growth of remote working and the increasing need to allow access to certain applications to partners, Ward had considered switching its remote authentication technology to a more elegant solution. “It was only when we were approached by AN4 Group and they demonstrated the simplicity and potential benefits offered by SafeWord that we agreed to an initial small scale pilot.”

Secure Computing SafeWord 2008 is a two-factor authentication solution available in a range of form factors to help protect assets and applications. SafeWord's easy-to-use tokens integrate with Microsoft infrastructure to deploy two-factor authentication for VPNs, Citrix applications, Web applications, Webmail, and Outlook Web Access.

With consulting advice from AN4 Group, Ward and his team implemented the SafeWord pilot in a single day, “We had the system up and running quickly and solved a couple of minor configuration issues with AN4’s help and after testing it for about a week – we decided that we could roll it out to another 50 users.”

Within a month, AC Yule & Son Ltd deployed SafeWord to around 30% of its staff requiring remote access, including site staff who often log-on to applications via system at customer or partner locations. “The implementation has been pretty uneventful which is a good thing,” comments Ward, “We have had no issues, the number of calls related to remote connectivity has dropped down to nearly zero and we now have the ability to provide secure access to key partners with ease.”

“Working with AN4 has been faultless” adds Ward, “They did what they said they would, on time and a good price and delivered to us a solution that will grow with our business.” He concludes.
