The 15th edition of the Mir Stekla International Exhibition concluded on June 20, 2013. The exhibition has once again become a key industry event. Its size, popularity and international recognition make it the first of its kind in Russia and one of the leading glass shows in Europe.

Over the last 15 years this joint project of Expocentre ZAO and the Russian Union of Architects has gained a position of the main show of the glass industry in Russia. It is acknowledged by the labels of UFI – the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, RUEF – the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs, as well as the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In his welcoming address acting Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development and Construction Marat Khusnullin said that the Mir Stekla exhibition had become a recognized centre of business activity, which gave an impetus to development of the glass market and use of glass in construction and architecture.

The exhibition had 7,700 visits registered; 94% of the visitors were industry professionals.

Mir Stekla’2013 brought together the interests of industry professionals showcasing the whole variety of glass products, manufacturing techniques and application fields.

293 companies from 25 countries demonstrated architectural, construction, art and decorative glass, glass processing equipment and technologies, research results and designs.

National pavilions of Italy and Germany were organized by GIMAV – the Italian Manufacturers’ Association of Machinery, Accessories and Special Products for Glass Processing, and VDMA – the German Engineering Association respectively.

The Russian exposition showcased achievements and products of 70 leaders of this country’s glass industry.

The Mir Stekla exhibition not only encourages the competitive growth of the Russian glass industry and helps mastering the best foreign experience, state-of-the-art technologies and equipment for glass production and processing, but also provides a platform for a dialogue among architects, builders and businessmen.

Accompanying events included a seminar devoted to prospects of the Russian glass market and a round table on production and application of foam glass. Participants in the seminar devoted to the 125th anniversary of the birth of Professor Isaak Kitaygorodskiy talked about the latest developments in manufacture of various types of glass and their application in aerospace engineering and other fields.

Mir Stekla’2013 included an award ceremony for winners in the 3rd edition of the Glass in Architecture Russian Competition and the National Award for the best completed project which uses glass and translucent structures. The competition was launched by the Russian Union of Architects supported by the Moscow Committee on Architecture and Urban Development, Green Building Council, Moscow Institute of Architecture, Union of Glass Companies, and Expocentre ZAO. 33 competition entries from architectural workshops included new construction projects, redeveloped historical buildings, restoration and reconstruction projects, building interiors and elements, which use glass as the main material to bring to life an architectural idea. The judges handed out two gold, four bronze, four special diplomas and seven diplomas to competition nominees.

A traditional competition held as part of the Glass in Architecture International Conference generated a great interest and brought together many professionals.

As this was an anniversary edition of Mir Stekla, the exhibition featured a unique retrospective of three competitions of 2011, 2012 and 2013, as well as entries of the Wood in Architecture Competition.
