DuPont in Germany: Going Where the Growth Is

Post Time:Jul 29,2008Classify:Company NewsView:393

“'Made in Germany" is a well-known label of quality and innovation around the world.  An export volume of more than 800 billion Euros qualifies Germany as global export champion – ahead of China.  The drivers of this economic strength are the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, the food industry, renewable energy technology and the chemical industry.

“Especially in these sectors, the German industry offers technologically advanced products providing tremendous growth opportunities for DuPont to put its science to work.  For example, we can greatly  benefit from Germany’s leading position in photovoltaics and wind energy.”

Ferdinand Bauerdick, Vice President & General Manager, DuPont Performance Coatings; Managing Director, DuPont Germany

“With annual sales of more than 2 billion dollars, Germany is the second-largest market for DuPont (after the U.S.).  In 2007, about 4,000 employees – more than a quarter of the total workforce in DuPont Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) – generated 16 percent growth.

“Although Volkswagen, Daimler, BMW, Deutsch Bahn and Siemens are headquartered in Germany, 3.4 million small and medium-sized companies are the sound base of the German economy.  In 2007, we launched a ‘country growth’ initiative to focus on growth in this segment.  We also apply our ‘One DuPont’ growth strategy to the transportation, food and energy markets.”
