Pennsylvania’s 6th Con-gressional District, due to redistricting, has expanded west to en-compass southeastern Lebanon County. Incumbent Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6Th), in reaching out to his new expanded constit-uency, recently visited the 230-employee SCHOTT Pharmaceuti-cal Packaging Plant in Lebanon to observe local high tech manu-facturing and to discuss with employees issues that are impacting the industry and manufacturing in general.

General Manager Bertram Eichhorn and plant employees were on hand to welcome Gerlach, Member of the House Ways and Means Committee and Co-Founder of the Congressional German American Caucus, which advocates for the continued growth of the business relationships between the U.S. and German compa-nies, like SCHOTT, who invest in American production and jobs.

Following the welcome and company briefing, Congressman Gerlach toured production lines and sterile clean room facilities where ready-to-fill syringes are manufactured to exacting toler-ances and specifications. During the visit, SCHOTT employees expressed appreciation for Gerlach’s fight against burdensome federal regulations and onerous taxes on medical devices. Further, SCHOTT communicated it will continue to invest in Lebanon as a high-end production site, investment that can be seen as SCHOTT is only one of two companies to produce high-quality ready-to-fill syringes in the United States.

“It is always an honor to receive a visit from our government rep-resentatives. During his visit, Congressman Gerlach demonstrated his strong knowledge of the pharmaceutical packaging industry and recognizes its importance to his constituents,” said General Manager Bertram Eichhorn. “I appreciate Congressman Gerlach taking the time to get to know a new part of his district and look forward to working with him next Congress.”
