CORNING, N.Y. -- For the first time ever, specialists from the Corning Museum of Glass used a wood burning furnace to fire glass and ceramic. The museum brought its world renown glass making technology to students at Corning Community College.

Glass blowers filled the furnace with ceramic and glass items that were carefully structured into mugs and other items. But it's not an easy process. Experts say they started 24 hours before getting the wood ready.

Organizers say it's much different from the glass blowing you see at the museum.
"At the museum, we're using electricity, we're using natural gas. Very easy, you don't have to carry it. It comes and works beautifully. But now we're trying this old technology," said Corning Museum of Glass Events Manager, Steve Gibbs.

Organizers say they hope to incorporate glass blowing techniques into more academic programs at the school.
