AAMA Sumer Conference to Feature Special Industry Presentations

The AAMA Summer Conference, to be held in Oak Brook, IL, June 10-13, will feature special presentations from experts on topics relevant to the fenestration industry.

Keynote Speaker, Michael Collins
On the second day of the conference, Michael Collins (Jordan, Knauff & Company), Managing Director of Building Products Group, will present an overview and future outlook of the residential and commercial window and door industry. Collins brings to his presentation 18 years of experience in investments, with nearly 10 years at Jordan, Knauff & Company where he leads the firm’s efforts in raising capital and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) advisory for window and door companies.

Specifically, his presentation will feature a discussion of key economic indicators and statistics, focusing on the building products industry, as well as an update on plant expansion and M&A activity. Collins will close his presentation with a review of the current status of competition from Chinese window and door companies.

Some of Collins’ many contributions to the fenestration industry include publishing the Window & Door Industry Benchmark Survey; conducting semi-annual Window & Door Update webinars and writing a regular column for Door & Window Manufacturer.

Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Q&A Session
Paul Gary (
The Gary Law Group) and Joan Long (Barnes & Thornburg) will give a overview of, as well as answer questions on, the current FTC proposed revisions and guidance expected to be included in the FTC’s revised
The "Green Guides" issue specific guidance on the marketing of environmental claims that are included in “labeling, advertising, promotional materials and all other forms of marketing, whether asserted directly or by implication, through words, symbols, emblems, logos, depictions, product brand names or through any other means, including marketing through digital or electronic means, such as the Internet or electronic mail,” according to the FTC.

Attendees are encouraged to bring questions about the FTC’s "Green Guides" with them to the session. Additionally, a LinkedIn discussion topic will be created prior to the conference to accept questions. To participate in discussions on the Summer Conference, join AAMA's LinkedIn group.

NFRC 713 Independent Verification Program (IVP) Presentation
The NFRC IVP is designed not only to meet the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirement to verify ENERGY STAR® product performance ratings but also to enhance the NFRC 700 Product Certification Program (PCP) by verifying that products listed in the NFRC Certified Products Directory (CPD) comply with the inspection and validation testing requirements of the NFRC PCP.

The pilot phase for the NFRC IVP is underway and implementation for the program is scheduled for January 2013.

Paul Gary
 and John Nolan of The Gary Law Group will give an in-depth discussion of the NFRC IVP, noting the challenges of the process and the potential for wide-ranging, unintended consequences.
