Kurz New Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SCHOTT

Mainz, May 7, 2012 - Dr. Dieter Kurz (64) is the new Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SCHOTT AG, based in Mainz, Germany. The Supervisory Board chose the former CEO of Carl Zeiss AG to succeed Dr. Theo Spettmann, who resigned from this position for health reasons at the beginning of March.

Dr. Kurz held senior positions at Carl Zeiss AG in Oberkochen starting in 1979. In 1999, he became a member of the Management Board and served as Chairman of the Board of Carl Zeiss, one of the world's leading groups in the optical and optoelectronic industry, from 2001 until 2010.

“We look forward to working with Dr. Kurz. SCHOTT will certainly benefit from his long years of entrepreneurial experience and his excellent knowledge of our company,” said Prof. Udo Ungeheuer, Chairman of the Board of Management of SCHOTT AG.

Dr. Kurz also assumed the position of Chairman of the Shareholder Council of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, Heidenheim an der Brenz and Jena, the sole shareholder in SCHOTT AG and Carl Zeiss AG, on March 15. Dr. Kurz also succeeds Dr. Spettmann in this function.
