Owens-Illinois, Inc., (NYSE: OI), the world´s largest glass packaging maker, has named Sergio Galindo the new president of the company´s Asia Pacific region, effective May 1. Galindo is currently general manager of O-I Colombia, one of the company´s most profitable and productive operations. He succeeds Stephen P. Bramlage, Jr., who will become O-I´s chief financial officer in June.
Since being named general manager of O-I Colombia in 2009, Galindo has nearly doubled earnings, expanded the country´s glass packaging specialties business and drove significant productivity improvements. Prior to his position in Colombia, Galindo was general manager of O-I Peru.
"Sergio has demonstrated great leadership, fiscal responsibility and smart decision making in his roles in both Colombia and Peru," said CEO and Chairman Al Stroucken. "He helped the Colombian organization adapt to a changing marketplace, adjusting its footprint while growing sales, and he has shown a passion for developing businesses opportunities. These experiences will be directly applicable to our Asia Pacific operations."
O-I´s Asia Pacific region accounts for nearly $1 billion of the company´s global sales. The company has 12 plants employing approximately 5,100 employees in four countries in the region, including Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and China. The company also has joint ventures in Malaysia and Vietnam.
