PITTSBURGH, Feb. 13, 2012 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) will sponsor the 59th annual Progressive Architecture Awards (P/A Awards) Celebration, Feb. 16 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
For more than 50 years, the P/A Awards have recognized buildings and architectural design throughout the world that stretches the boundaries of convention and promotes advances in the field. In 2012, of 200 projects submitted for consideration, only 10 were selected as P/A Award winners.
Richard A. Beuke, PPG vice president, flat glass, said PPG is pleased to support the P/A Awards. “Over the years, architectural glass made by PPG has been central to advancing the art and science of building design. It is an honor for us to be associated with the tradition these awards represent, and with the architects and firms that keep glass on the forefront of contemporary design.”
The P/A Awards, which are among the most prestigious juried awards in the industry, were introduced in 1954 by the editors of the now-defunct Progressive Architecture magazine. The magazine folded in 1996 and the awards were taken over by Architecture magazine. When that publication ceased operations in 2006, the P/A Awards were inherited by Hanley Wood, publisher of ARCHITECT magazine, which serves as their steward today.
PPG manufacturers SOLARBAN(R) and SUNGATE(R) high-performance solar control and passive low-emissivity (low-e) glasses; STARPHIRE(R) glass, the industry’s most transparent commercial architectural glass; and an unparalleled range of nature-inspired, high-performance tinted glasses. PPG is the only glass manufacturer in North America to have its entire collection of architectural glass CRADLE TO CRADLE CERTIFIED(CM).
