Pharmapack Europe is an unmissable gathering of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare product professionals, bringing together 260 exhibitors and over 2,800 key decision-makers from 54 countries on 15-16 February 2012 at the Grande Halle de la Villette, PARIS (FRANCE).
Recognised for the great quality of its visitors, its conferences and its exhibition, Pharmapack Europe has always kept itself up to date from one year to the next, in order to better respond to the new challenges of the healthcare industry. So, after 17 years of existence, the first European event dedicated to innovation in packaging and drug delivery systems continues to improve, grow in size, and expand internationally.
A programme focusing on innovation and new themes
Now in its 11th year, Pharmapack Europe is introducing several new features. The conference programme will cover an even wider range of themes, dealing with the issues connected to developing drug delivery systems, as well as primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.
Furthermore, innovation will be the guiding track during the two days, “in the sense of opening up new areas for consideration for those involved in the sector,” explains Aurore Domange, Event Manager for Pharmapack Europe. She continues, “in addition, we are going even further by offering a semi-scientific programme with presentations from experts in the industrial sector, healthcare organisations and authorities, as well as experts from research facilities and universities. The objective is to develop a fertile environment for innovation by facilitating meetings for stakeholders from different stages of the process, and even experts from fields outside the pharmaceutical spectrum.”
One distinguished expert is Patrice Noailles who will open the conference programme with a presentation on the theme, “From Mesopotamia to modern times, think different about innovation.”
Another important theme for the 2012 edition is “Sustainability: challenges and practices,” which will be approached through exchanges of experience and presentations of innovative solutions that enable the cost and environmental impact of packaging to be reduced, at the same time as optimising its functions (protecting the medicine and acting as a vehicle for regulatory information and correct use of the medicine).
Half a day will be dedicated to the theme “New materials, compatibility and drug delivery for injectables.” The participants will provide a full report on regulations and the latest innovations and developments in these areas, which are all the more crucial considering the strong growth in injectables at present.
The theme “Packaging design for better compliance, security and patient safety,” a key driver for innovation and a major concern among healthcare product manufacturers, will also be covered. Notably, this will feature an update on European regulations about child-resistant packaging and a brand new theme, “The behaviour of teenagers about packaging: how to induce compliance for this target?” Co-Chairperson of this session, Sébastien Fily, Packaging Development Specialist & Marketing, Galderma (Canada) comments, “we know that teenagers are rebels at heart. This makes them an interesting target to study with regard to their behaviour towards medicines. In addition, this is the age at which the adult person is formed, along with his or her habits in terms of consumption and use of products and treatments.”
International experts will deal with another key area for the future of medicine, “Combination products and novel drug delivery systems.” These presentations will constitute an update on the emerging technologies applicable to these healthcare products. They will also cover regulations, a particularly complex theme, as we are reminded by Marielle Fournier, Director, Combination and Borderline Products, Voisin Consulting Life Sciences, France. “The regulatory strategy can be extremely complicated for companies who want to develop in a rationalised manner and target international markets,” she emphasises. Her presentation will give participants a better understanding of the challenges of regulatory strategies, particularly with regard to the choice of medical device during international clinical development.
Another great innovation for the 2012 edition of Pharmapack Europe is the “Tertiary Packaging & Cold Chain” Technical Symposium to be held alongside the conference in the main lecture theatre. This gathering will provide visitors to the event the opportunity to discuss with experts the problems relating to temperature-controlled transportation of medicines, discover innovative packaging solutions and technologies, and benefit from exchanging experiences with various stakeholders from the pharmaceutical distribution chain.
The exhibition continues to attract leading participants
Offering a real window on technologies to complement the conference, the exhibition space at Pharmapack Europe will bring together all the latest innovations, enabling decision-makers from pharmaceutical laboratories, biotech laboratories and the medical industry to benefit, during the two days, from an exhaustive overview of market trends.
Representing a growth in numbers from last year, 260 exhibitors will present their latest developments with product ranges covering all areas, product solutions, technologies and services for the design, development and production of packaging and delivery systems for healthcare products.
In spite of expanding, Pharmapack Europe’s exhibition space maintains its specialist positioning and quality objectives by bringing together companies that are highly specialised in their respective areas. Thanks to this select group of exhibitors, visitors will have the opportunity to meet all their suppliers in one place, as well as meet new partners and keep an eye on the latest technologies in an efficient manner. In addition, in response to visitor and exhibitor wishes, the event remains a manageable size that is conducive to fostering exchange. The dedicated meeting areas at attendee’s disposal will also enable you to network, meet partners and hold confidential discussions with experts about your projects in development.
The Pharmapack Awards are also evolving
This highlight of the event, eagerly awaited by professionals in the sector, has been renamed the Pharmapack Europe Awards, in keeping with the audience and the event’s development. In 2012, these awards will be given for the most innovative packaging of drugs, medical devices, healthcare products and veterinary medicines launched on the European market between November 2010 and December 2011. There will also be awards given in new categories.
