More than 100 employees at Pittsburgh Corning Corp.´s glass block plant in north central Pennsylvania will remain laid off for at least five weeks longer than expected.

Production at the plant in Port Allegany shut down July 1 and was expected to resume later this month. But now the company says the shutdown will continue through at least Oct. 1. The company says it has enough inventory on hand for its customers and doesn´t need to produce any more.

About 70 employees are still on the job. The plant about 130 miles northeast of Pittsburgh employs about 175 people when running at full capacity.

Pittsburgh Corning is a joint venture between PPG Industries Inc. and Corning Inc. The company has made glass block at the plant since 1938.
