HannStar Display saw sharp growth in medium-size LCD panels in August, but revenues for the month still dropped slightly because of price declines for all segments.
HannStar's medium-size panel shipments rose 64.5% sequentially to 1.61 million units in August as the company continued to shift more of its production to the medium-size under 12-inch segment. Large-size panel shipments reached 1.3 million units, up 4.3% from July. But August revenues fell 2.9% sequentially to NT$4.81 billion (US$151.28 million).
HannStar has set a shipment goal of five million medium-size panels for the third quarter, but its July and August shipments to the segment totaled 2.6 million units, just about half that goal.
HannStar currently owns one fab – a 5G line-that can process 130,000 substrates per month. The company has disclosed that part of the capacity – 50,000-60,000 substrates – will be adjusted by the end of 2008 to offer the flexibility of producing either large-size or medium-size panels.
