Glass industry hits on hard times

Post Time:Sep 09,2008Classify:Industry NewsView:495

Glass output and import volume have been massively declined, while prices are remaining stable. In July, the glass output dropped by 10.3% mainly in North China, East China and South Central of China. From January to July, the total volume of imported flat glass declined by 26%.

Glass industry has hit on hard times. There are four reasons for the massive decline:
1. Demand for downstream flat glass is mainly for various constructions and real estate. The depression of real estate industry impacts glass industry the greatest.
2. The demand lowers in the international market, which causes the declining of exports.
3. High cost and declining price lead to the production reduction of some companies.
4. Glass output hit new high. In June and many companies increase their storages, which intensifies the conflict between supply and demand of glass in a short time.

The issue on excess manufacturing capacity of glass industry will be more evident, if the macroeconomic sinks further. Most of glass companies will make losses.
