The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) continued its fall meeting in San Antonio, Texas, yesterday, with an opening general session, an unforgettable guest speaker, a tabletop reception and meetings throughout the day.

Rich Walker, president of the association, opened the general session with several updates, including one on the Precipitation Imaging Probe for which AAMA has been providing funding to assist in the study of hurricanes. The device was deployed during both of the most recent hurricanes, Ike and Hannah.

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association held its fall meeting this week in San Antonio, Texas.
"They hope to start getting some good data from that," he said.

Walker also warned attendees to provide feedback on the revised ENERGY STAR® draft criteria so it can be presented in comment form by AAMA before the October deadline (CLICK HERE for more on that deadline).

One popular topic throughout the meeting has been the group's green certification program, which currently is under development. Walker advised he has meetings planned with both the U.S. Green Building Council and the Green Building Initiative in order to get feedback on the AAMA program as it develops.

"We don't want to go too far down our road without having their input," he said.

After Walker's presentation, members dispersed to attend various meetings (see below for more information). However, at lunchtime, all gathered back for lunch and a presentation by J.R. "Jack" Edmondson, who portrayed Colonel James Bowie and told the story, in character, of his life and his involvement in the Alamo, which is just about 20 minutes away from where the meeting is being held.

In addition, the day ended with a tabletop reception where supplier members could demonstrate new products and services while attendees had a chance to network and see the latest.
