CASA COR 15/08 - 28/09
Alphaville - Lagoa dos Ingleses – Belo Horizonte – MG - Brazil

Marco Zanini and Flávia Souza & Seves in CASA COR

Inside CASA COR, one of the most important Brazilian exhibitions dedicated to interior designers, SEVES presents a "Tropical Café": an entirely luminous architectural sculpture created with Seves glassblock’s newest products: the monochromatic shades of the Mendini Collection by Alessandro Mendini, the "Tailor Made" Trapezoidal and Doric glass blocks, and the standard 19x19cm Pegasus line.

Seves’ new glass blocks offer new design perspectives, combinations of decorations and formats, and chromatic effects never seen before; this project explores new creative spaces, especially in the combination of different glass blocks in the same wall. This event gives Seves glassblock one more opportunity to show architects and designers the new expressive potential of its glass blocks.

In the Brazilian setting, the glass blocks, a characteristic element of the European rationalistic language of architecture from the XX century, are surrounded by plants in bloom and coloured fishes transforming the product and the project into a Brazilian tropical ambiance. The glass block offers itself as a neutral subject in the creation of projects that interpret local architectural languages, applying them to physical and mental spaces, through light, and through the vitality of Brazil today.

The “Tropical Café” was designed by Marco Zanini, historical partner of Ettore Sottsass in Milan and one of the founders of “Memphis”, and Flavia Alves de Souza, part of the new generation of Brasilian designers, with a background in Italy. Both designers now live and work in Rio de Janeiro.
