The PPG glass plant in Wichita Falls will not be affected by a restructuring announced Wednesday by PPG.

The company’s performance glazing business announced Wednesday it would restructure its manufacturing operations, citing weakness in the North American residential construction market that is affecting glass suppliers.

The company said in a news release it will cease production in the first quarter 2009 at its Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, glass manufacturing facility, which employs approximately 170 people. The company also said it would idle one float glass line at its Mount Zion, Ill., glass plant in the second quarter next year.

Spokesman Jeremy Neuhart said the moves would not impact the Wichita Falls plant.

The glass plant here was damaged in the August flooding. Neuhart said while one production line is running, another remains down for repairs. He said the manufacturing interruption has not resulted in layoffs.
