SAGE announces new execs, brand identity and progress on high-volume plant

SAGE Electrochromicsofficials announced July 21 that the company has hired two new senior executives, unveiled a new corporate brand identity andhas madesignificant strides on its new manufacturing plant construction.

Andrew Hulsehas been appointedvice president of business development and sales, responsible for field operations and inside sales. He comes to SAGE from Honeywell Aerospace, where he served as vice president of business development in the defense and space business. Previously, he spent 12 years in various executive positions in general management and marketing within Honeywell's aerospace, and home and building control divisions. Prior to Honeywell, he served for a decade as a naval flight officer in both operational and instructional roles.

Also new to the company is Derek Malmquist, who has been named vice president of marketing responsible for marketing strategy, programs and lead generation. Malmquist began his career as an advertising executive, spent a decade in marketing at The Clorox Co. and held executive positions at Looksmart.com, Marshall Field's/Target Corp. and Ecolab. He later became senior vice president of marketing at Oceanaire Restaurants.

In addition, SAGE is currently interviewing and hiring additional employees to handle full-capacity production in its existing facility and preparation for next year's growth. According to a release, the company is hiring aggressively in anticipation of bringing a total of 160 new green collar jobs to Minnesota by 2012.

A new logo

SAGE also unveiled a new golden sunburst logo today [July 21] to better express the evolving company's personality. "Although we're a technology company and pioneering materials science, our overarching mission is harnessing daylight's power to make people in buildings happier, healthier and more productive," said John Van Dine, SAGE founder and CEO, in the release. "That includes saving energy, and consequently the planet, which makes everyone smile."

Progress on the new manufacturing plant

SAGE also announced that the 324,000-square-foot building that will house its new high-volume manufacturing facility will be substantially complete before the end of the year. The next step will be installation of the high-volume manufacturing process equipment. Completion of the plant is expected by spring 2012, with startup occurring later that year.

When complete, the facility will be the world's largest and most advanced dynamic glass manufacturing plant, able to produce dynamic glass in high volumes and in large commercial architectural sizes at an affordable cost, according to a release. SAGE is seeking LEED Silver accreditation for the facility.
