CAW serves 72-hour strike notice at Kawneer Manufacturing

The Canadian Auto Workers union has served strike notice to Kawneer Manufacturing, a division of Alcoa, Pittsburgh.

CAW Local 99 represents a bargaining unit of 218 workers at Kawneer Manufacturing in Lethbridge, AB; the workers include production and maintenance employees at the Alcoa-owned Lethbridge plant which operates a press for aluminum extrusion and the production of architectural products.

The union has set a strike deadline of 7 a.m. on Thursday April 21, 2011.

The workers at Kawneer Manufacturing voted 84 per cent in favour of strike action on March 26, 2011, according to an April 18 Alpha Trade Finance report.
