Post Time:May 28,2010Classify:Industry NewsView:179

YKK AP America, Austell, Ga.,will host two all-day education programs on hurricane impact and energy efficient products for architects, builders and code officials, June 8, at the Holiday Inn Superdome, 330 Loyola Ave., New Orleans, and June 9, at the Holiday Inn & Suites, 501 N. Hwy 190, Covington, La., according to a May 27 release. This is an opportunity to learn about what products are ideally suited for impact, blast mitigation and green fenestration systems. In addition to work nationwide, YKK AP America is providing fenestration products on the Federal City Project in New Orleans.

The vision for Federal City is to be a model for small military bases around the country. The intent is not to follow the traditional base organization plans but to minimize the costs and direct services provided by the military, while integrating the facility more successfully into the surrounding neighborhoods. Federal City offers an approach that could make it a National Model for the future configuration and operation of small to midsized DOD installations, the decommissioning of military installations, and large-scale urban development. New Orleans is a city that, in recent years, has suffered devastating effects from hurricanes. Experience has shown that structures built to certain minimum wind-borne debris and impact standards can successfully withstand a strong hurricane, while structures not built to certain minimum requirements are often severely damaged. This education session will focus specifically on the products best suited for these conditions, according to the release.

Pre-registration is required. To register for either event, call Keith Hocutt at 601/212-4425 or write to keithhocutt@ykk-api.com.
