Dow Automotive Systems, AuburnHills, Mich.,supported the first Glass Doctor University Auto Glass Certification program open to all glass shop professionals last month by sending two experts to help teach participants the various disciplines of professional auto glass installation, according to a May 19 release. Now fully approved as a registered training course by the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standard Council, the four-day training course led by GDU technical manager Frank Levesque at the GDU Training Center in Waco, Texas, included extensive classroom instruction and hands-on training with the latest technology in auto glass adhesives, tools and techniques.

“The first GDU auto glass program open to everyone in the industry was a great success, and Dow Automotive Systems was a big help in promoting and supporting the four-day session,” said Dan Mock, vice president, Franchise Relations and Training for Glass Doctor, in the release. “We’re proud to offer our expertise and our state-of-the-art training facility to reinforce our commitment to AGRSS standards, and we look forward to many more open GDU auto glass programs.”

On the first day of the GDU program, Dale Malcolm, technical manager, and Danny Cypret, local field sales and technical service representative for Dow Automotive Systems, Aftermarket, presented GDU participants with the company’s complete two-hour Fixed Glass Training Program, which is also registered by AGRSS in all four categories: Retention Systems, Mechanical Training of Glass Replacement, Installation Standards and Procedures, and AGR Safety Issues. Malcolm then led a two-hour, hands-on workshop session that focused on corrosion treatment, safety issues and customer service.

“Dow Automotive Systems has always been very supportive of training for the aftermarket industry,” said Frank Levesque, technical manager for GDU, in the release. “We look forward to partnering with them again for the next open GDU auto glass program in Waco in mid-July.”

“We’re very pleased to support another, much needed training resource for the auto glass industry,” said Malcolm in the release. “Feedback from our participants was very positive, and Dow Automotive Systems will support GDU as we continue to develop and improve our auto glass training programs.”
