Ray Kollar is helping Solutia Inc. find new uses for old products. As president and general manager of the company’s CPFilms division, he is pushing Solutia’s technology into new and growing markets, from solar energy collection to the Amazon Kindle’s innovative display.

Those efforts are paying off for St. Louis. CPFilms, one of three operating units that make up the parent company’s specialty chemicals and glass treatment businesses, has added 37 people at Solutia’s Town and Country headquarters in the past few months, taking overall company hires here to about 60 since last summer. Most of those jobs are in customer service, marketing and sales as the company consolidates those functions in St. Louis and positions itself for growth.

Solutia now employs 276 people at its headquarters and about 125 more at a manufacturing facility in Sauget, Ill. The company has 3,100 employees in 60 countries, according to a Jan. 22 St. Louis Business Journal report.
