DuPont touts solar research

A "solar garden" of 210 modules, with 108 solar panels in each, covers the roof of Building 356 at the DuPont Experimental Station northwest of Wilmington.

The panels generate enough electricity to power the entire building, known as the "Innovation Center"--the equivalent of six standard homes in Delaware.

But this garden is part of the "old generation," of solar panels, and DuPont wants to usher in the new generation--more mainstream solar photovoltaic--PV, or the science of converting light to electrical energy--products by using an ultra-thin and flexible protective film to make solar energy more practically integrated into commercial and residential buildings, according to a July 2 Delaware Online report.
