Safelite plans to open a new distribution center in Ontario, Calif., a city where the company has been a presence for more than 30 years, according to a June 16 release.
The 282,000-square-foot facility—Safelite’s largest distribution center ever—will support distribution of vehicle glass to the states west of the Mississippi river. It will provide service to Safelite’s California customers and to customers in the western United States. The distribution center will bring 35 new jobs to the market, with the potential to grow to 90 jobs as volume increases. In addition, there will be services and products used by this center from established California companies as it operates in the future.
Safelite leaders also have taken steps to assure they remain mindful of protecting the California’s natural resources, according to the release. To that end, the company has taken great effort in reducing its environmental impact with a number of innovations. They include:
Elimination of 1 million miles in transport, resulting in a reduction of its primary carbon footprint (as measured by direct emissions of CO2) by more than 1500 tonsCompact florescent T5 lighting, which are three to four times more efficient than standard fluorescent lighting, with motion and daylight sensors that illuminate only when neededSkylights on approximately 5 percent of the roof, to allow for natural sunlightRechargeable, energy-efficient electric forklift trucksMotion sensors in office space that turn off lights when office is emptyMotion sensors in bathrooms to conserve waterCorrugated cardboard and wood pallet recycling.Safelitewill celebrate the grand opening of the distribution center with a ceremony, lunch, and tour for VIPs and media 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 15 at4060 E. Francis St., Suite 100, Ontario, Calif.
