Construction of Jackson County's [Mich.]first truly "green building" is progressing and should be completed by September.

Full Spectrum Solutions, which specializes in light-therapy systems, commercial lighting and energy-efficient lighting, is making every effort to ensure its new headquarters at 2021 Wellworth Ave. is as green and energy efficient as possible.

The 59,500-square-foot warehouse is nearly complete and will be heated by a geothermal system, has solar tracking skylights on the roof and specialized glass windows that capture energy in the winter and divert it in summer to keep the building cool.

Each skylight is attached to a GPS unit that will follow the sun throughout the day, and a series of mirrors inside each one will reflect a steady stream of light into the building. Also, when light comes in through the windows, the lights on the ceiling will dim so there is a constant level of lighting throughout the day, according to a March 17 report in The Jackson Citizen Patriot.
