Stimulus bill offers a ray of recall hope for workers laid off from Kingsport's AGC plant

Ed Wegener, manager of the AGC Flat Glass' North American Strategic Business Unit, had an upbeat outlook for workers at AGC's Kingsport plan while talking to a Memphis Commercial Appeal reporter about President Obama's stimulus bill this week.He said he expects that the Kingsport plant's workforce will grow from 290 to 400 when the effects of the stimulus bill kicks in. What prompted the response was the stimulus bill's provisions for:- A 30 percent investment tax credit to help offset the cost of installing renewable energy projects.- Credits for equipment manufacturers and purchasers.- $6 billion in solar related loan guarantees and grants and research and development funding, according to a Feb. 24 timesnews.net report.On Feb. 9, AGC laid off 100 workers at the Kingsport plant.
