Architectural index inches upward

The American Institute of Architects is reporting a small increase in its December architectural billings index, but still 19 points lower than it was a year earlier.

The index—considered a leading economic indicator of construction activity—continued to show decreases in billings, but the rate increased from the continued record lows reported by the institute between October and November.

The index was at 36.4 last month, compared to 34.7 mark reported in November. The inquiries for new projects score was 37.7 and the South United States region earned a 35.5 score, according to a Jan. 21 report in the Orlando Business Journal.
