Glass showers pedestrians in Wellington

Firefighters have abseiled down a central Wellington [New Zealand]building to clear glass which had been showering the street below.

A pedestrian called police about 12.45pm to say glass was falling from the National Bank building on the corner of Featherston and Panama streets, Inspector Paul Jermy told NZPA.

It was identified as coming from the 11th floor, and the street below was cordoned off.

The glass was "crumbling" and falling, rather than falling as one pane, and pieces fell for about two hours, according to a Jan. 18 stuff.co.nz report.
