China’s Xinyi Glass expanded production into the solar market, adding two additional lines for photovoltaic glass production in China, according to an Oct. 20 company release. The first line has a daily capacity of 500 tons per day and produces 1/8-inch and 5/32-inch low-iron patterned glass for crystalline silicone PV module application. The second is a magnetron sputtering coating line, supplied by Germany’s Leybold Optics GmbH, for transparent conductive oxide coating. The TCO glass is designed for thin film PV module production. This line, with annual capacity of 680,000 square meters, is scheduled to start operation in mid 2009, according to the release.“These new production lines will ensure that increasing demand for PV glass from strong business growth of our customers engaging in PV module fabrications can be met,” says Daniel Lau, managing director of XYG Glass.Xinyi Glass has four float glass lines, producing 150 truckloadsof glass aday. One of the float lines is designated to produceultra thin glass—5/64-inch to 1/8-inch—for specialty applications for North America market.Xinyi Glass exhibited at Solar Power International 2008, Oct. 13-16 in San Diego.
