Post Time:Sep 30,2008Classify:Industry NewsView:192

The Glass Association of North America announced today that it has formed an association-wide Energy Committee, which will focus on glass usage in solar power creation, photovoltaic technologies and more. Stanley Yee, a Principal and Building Enclosure Consultant of Portland-based The Façade Group, LLC, has been named Chair of the Committee.

“Energy is quickly becoming an enormous factor in the glass industry,” explained GANA Executive Vice President Bill Yanek. “With opportunities ranging from mirror-enhanced solar power creation to ‘clean’ energy, our members are prepared to take the lead in converting these to new markets for the North American glass industry.”

Yee, a LEED AP, has provided consulting and project management responsibilities for numerous projects both nationally and internationally. Prior to joining The Façade Group, Yee spent eight years working for international façade subcontractors and consulting firms. His specialties include waterproofing, testing and glass performance. A graduate of Concordia University (Canada), Yee is a member of the Glass Association of America (GANA) and the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA).

“I appreciate the opportunity to serve the industry in an area in which we can provide immediate impact,” said Yee. “The energy field is rapidly expanding into architectural glass, and our Committee will be prepared to evaluate and act on the potential available to our industry.”

The Energy Committee’s first public action is to co-sponsor a panel discussion at Glass Week with the GANA Mirror Division. The Panel will feature a presentation on “Requirements & Potential for Concentrating Solar Power Mirrors” by Cheryl Kennedy of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, as well as other experts in the emerging energy production industry. More information on Glass Week and this Panel will be published on the Glass Week website at www.glassweek.com in early October.
