The first non-North American lab has been authorized in Beijing to test for the Insulating Glass Certification Council and the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance, said John Kent, administrative manager, IGCC, Sackets Harbor, N.Y. He spoke on the opening day of IGMA’s 8th Annual Conference in Sanibel Island, Fla., Jan. 28-Feb. 1. At the Certification & Education Committee meeting, also held on the opening day, Margaret Webb, IGMA executive director, said that Keystone Certifications Inc. terminated its agreement with IGMA, and will continue with its own certification program. In October 2006, IGMA of Ottawa, Ontario, entered into the agreement with Keystone, Etters, Pa., to provide administration services for its insulating glass certification program based on the ASTM E 2190 standard. Association officials at the time said the addition of Keystone would broaden IGMA’s certification program offerings to industry segments that typically have not been reached. The Certification & Education Committee also discussed educational seminars. Webb said the Insulating Glass Manufacturing Quality Procedures Educational Seminar has been stalled for about two years. The committee had sought consulting firms to develop the course with no success. After discussion, the committee decided the seminar was important enough to develop with IGMA volunteers. “We have to transfer a different way of thinking,” Webb said. “It’s not just teaching a skill, it’s teaching a different perspective.” IGMA is moving on requests from the National Glass Association’s myglassglass.com to post its presentations on the Web site, Webb said. An American Institute for Architects course could be developed at myglassclass.com as well, she added. Webb said she has gotten requests to put on the Preventing Insulating Glass Failures Educational Seminar—presented at GlassBuild America annually—at locations in British Columbia. The committee decided to develop a survey to find out sites and times that would draw the most attendees.
