Saint-Gobain reports 18.5 percent increase in sales

Sales increased to $53.7 billion in fiscal 2006, up 18.5 percent over last year for France’s Saint-Gobain, according to a Jan. 25 company release. The glassmaker’s net income increased 32.6 percent to $2.2 billion, according to the release. Company officials attributed much of the growth to driving construction markets in Europe and ongoing expansion in Asia, according to the release. Sales in the flat glass sector increased 7.8 percent compared to 2005, according to the release. While profitability in the flat-glass sector improved to 9.8 percent in the second half of 2006, compared to 9.4 percent in the second half of 2005, profitability was slightly down for the year.
