Post Time:Nov 12,2013Classify:Industry NewsView:47

Producer prices for glass continued their rise in May, according to producer price index data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, released June 13. The PPI for all flat-glass products increased to 113.1, up slightly from 112.9 in April and 2.2 percent higher than its 110.7 level in May 2005. The PPI flat-glass category includes three subcategories: sheet, plate and float glass, defined as products that come directly from glass manufacturers; laminated; and specialty products made of purchased flat glass such as mirrors or pressed glass. Sheet-, plate- and float-glass prices reached 93.7 in May, up from 93.1 in April and from 91.7 in May 2005, a 2.2 percent increase. Laminated glass fell 0.1 to 89.8 since April, but sits 2.4 percent higher than the 87.7 in May 2005. Prices for construction materials in general rose more steeply in the month. The overall PPI for construction materials and components rose 1.2 percent in May, up 7.8 percent from May 2005. Glass statistics are based on a price of $100 in January 1982. Preliminary data are noted with a “p” and can be revised up to four months after original publication. All data are available at www.bls.gov.
