Post Time:Nov 06,2013Classify:Industry NewsView:56

The Department of Energy's Building Technologies OfficeEmerging Technologies program announced it will add up to $1.6 million in new funding to develop a program to rate and certify the energy performance of both commercial and residential window attachments, according to a Nov. 6 BTO release.

BTO’s prioritization tool, used for internal analysis, has indicated that the use of insulating and reflective window attachments is a cost-effective energy savings measure, but there are currently no performance rating mechanisms in place for assessing the energy performance of window attachments. According to the BTO release, this funding builds on the DOE's broader efforts to strengthen U.S. leadership in clean energy manufacturing and deployment, and will make possible the following tasks:

Create a consistent set of energy performance-based rating and certification standards and program procedures.Oversee the implementation of rating, certification, labeling, and performance verification procedures.Develop and maintain a publicly available, searchable electronic database of window attachment product performance.

The funding opportunity is open to applicants in the following areas:

Product certification programsFenestration and fenestration attachment technologyTest and simulation procedure developmentFenestration attachments industryEnergy efficiency and policy programs

The submission deadline for a concept paper is December 5, 2013, at 5 p.m. EST, The deadline for full applications is February 5, 2014, at 5 p.m. EST.
