The business of automotive components Oribay, located in Guipuzcoa, has carried out research into developing a new range of adhesives which would allow components to be attached to the windscreens of vehicles with a high resistance to impact in extreme weather conditions.

The initiative consists of injecting “almost nanoparticles" into the adhesive gel in order to introduce new properties to the product which allows it to react to vibrations and impacts, in both cold and hot weather conditions, explained the head of the project, José Muñoz.

This new range of structural adhesives is a pioneering international research area in the sector and has stirred interest among the big automobile manufacturers, according to Muñoz.

The expert explained that the research began in 2005 when they noticed that a product which safely guarantees the correct adhesion of metal, steel and plastic components to the glass of the windshields in changeable meteorological conditions didn’t exist. For that reason, they began to develop their own range.

The project, which has already had tangible results, is still ongoing with the aim of designing advanced solutions in the field of structural adhesives.
