O-I Manufacturing Finland (of the Owens-Illinois O-I group) has transferred production of brown 0.33-litre and 0.5-litre glass bottles from its plant in Karhula, in Finland, to Järvakandi in Estonia. O-I Manufacturing Finland will continue manufacture of clear glass bottles for Fosters, among others.
According to Finnish brewery Sinebrychoff, the location where the bottles are made is not important as such, as quality requirements remain uncharged. Also, there is little need for new 0.33-litre bottles. The market share of glass bottles is now only 20%-30%, but Sinebrychoff has no plans to give up bottles altogether. In early 2009, Sinebrychoff will introduce a new Korpisavu Karhu beer that is bottled in a 0.33-litre glass bottle.
