Missing for decades, stained glass window again adorns Jeannette church

A long-forgotten Christmas treasure, covered in nearly 60 years of dirt and dust, has come to light at a Jeannette church in time for the holiday.

A century-old stained glass window of the Nativity once again has taken its rightful place behind the altar at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity after being removed in 1949 during a renovation project.

"It had been dead and buried, and now there's new life and resurrection and there's new promise," said the Rev. Daniel Defassio, the church's pastor.

The 8-foot-tall, 5-foot-wide leaded-glass window depicts Mary swaddling the baby Jesus in her lap with Joseph watching. A shepherd kneels in adoration and presents a lamb to the Christ child.

It was unveiled last night during Christmas Eve services at the church.
