New annealing lehr control for Verallia Essen

A routine furnace overhaul in autumn 2015 Verallia in Essen takes as reason to renew as well the control systems at three of the annealing lehrs of the plant and the cold end coating systems. 

On behalf of the glass manufacturer futronic is responsible for the implementation, from conception, programming through planning of electronics and control cabinet construction up to commissioning.

 

The futronic control systems for lehrs and cold end coating are based for the first time on the new  1500-SPS-Series from Siemens, a successor of the 300-Controller. A special character of the new control systems generation is the Totally Integrated Automation Portal (TIA-Portal), a new programming environment, which integrates the programming of SPS and HMI (Human Machine Interface).

 

The TIA-Portal is State-of-the-Art technology in the automation, however it is not so easy to handle at the beginning. "We have dealt with this intensively and could fully exploit its potential in the engineering of diverse applications", explains Stephan Pies, sales engineer at futronic and responsible for the project.

 

futronic presented an annealing lehr control system for the first time in 2009. The control electronic automates the quality sensible processes in the lehrs substantially and thus creates optimal conditions in the heating and cooling zones which is essential for the product quality. Malfunctions can be realized more quickly by the operator and could be localized and eliminated. This reduces rebuild times and error rates, such as incorrect entries, and consequently the operating costs are reduced significantly.

 

One of the characteristic features of the futronic control system is for example a job management, which memorizes specific adjustment parameter of the annealing temperatures for more than 200 glass container types. In case of a job change the operator only chooses the job at the touchscreen terminal. All controller parameters will be loaded automatically. The ethernet interface also allows the connection to the control system to higher-level process control systems to transmit systems conditions and evaluation of productivity. Via futronic E-Timer even status information like job rebuild or section reduced operation could be implemented into the system,which is important for quality assurance. The annealing lehr control can maintained online via remote control, which simplifies a short term fault recovery.
