Ethiopian Hansom International Glass, the first-of-its kind glass factory in Ethiopia, was established with 30 million USD.

Factory General Manager, Du Sengsha told WIC today that the construction of the glass factory was launched in 2007 on 40,000 square meters of land in Addis Ababa.

The factory is fully equipped with machineries imported from China so that it can begin production by the end of March 2009, the general manager indicated.

The establishment of the factory would have significant contribution for the development of the industrial sector in the country, Sengsha said.

Up on going operational, the factory would have the capacity of producing more than 42,000 tons of glass annually, he said, adding this would help save foreign currency and create jobs for over 350 citizens.

A two-month training would also be given to employees of the factory here and in China so that they can efficiently carry out their jobs, he indicated.

He said raw materials such as dolomite, felid spar and silk sand would be purchased locally while other chemicals needed for the production of glass would be imported from China.

The factory would supply its products to the local market and neighboring countries, which he said would contribute in expanding the country’s foreign currency earnings.

Commending the investment friendly environment in the country, the general manager called on other foreign investors to make use of the opportunity and invest in the country.
