Stone chips and break-ins are the most common causes of damage to glass in vehicles. However; Auto Windscreens, one of the UK’s leading automotive glazing services companies, has polled its team of automotive glazing technicians to find out some of the stranger reasons customers give to explain the damage to their vehicle’s glass.

Here are the top five strangest reasons customers have attributed to their vehicle’s broken glass, or lack of it in one case!

Barrier cream – A lady smeared her windscreen in barrier cream following her son’s tongue-in-cheek advice that it would help the faulty car park barrier at her place of work go up more easily. Unsurprisingly it didn’t.

Underwear – A customer reported that her windscreen wipers had jammed. On inspection it was found that a pair of knickers, which she had used to clear her windscreen that morning, were tangled in the wipers.

Confectionery - While driving, a customer sneezed with such force that a mint he was sucking shot out of his mouth and cracked his windscreen.

No damage – A customer reported that the passenger window on his new car had been broken, only for the technician to point out that he had in fact put his electric window down by mistake.

Stiletto heels – the heels of stiletto shoes account for a number of damaged windscreens – particularly to the inside of the vehicle!

Auto Windscreens provides a wholly-owned and complete 24/7/365 nationwide automotive glazing repair and replacement service for windscreens, side and rear windows on virtually any vehicle.

The Company’s services are provided through its own dedicated contact centre in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, and a UK-wide network of 98 fitting centres and a fleet of fully-equipped mobile service units.
