Solutia Makes Cutbacks to Streamline Organization; Mark Gold Released from Company

Solutia Inc. has laid off several employees from its operations in an effort to streamline the business internally in light of the economy, according to company spokesperson Missy Hammonds.

"We took some actions within Solutia about a month ago to align our organization," she said. "The economic downturn has caused us to make some adjustments."

Though Hammonds could not name specific employees who were let go, she was able to confirm that Mark Gold, who worked at the company's Indian Orchard, Mass., facility and was active within the glass industry, was among those released.

Hammond said the layoffs affected numerous Solutia facilities throughout the country, but could not provide an approximation on how many employees were affected. She said approximately 20 were let go from the Indian Orchard plant.

"We looked throughout the organization, but the numbers … were not significant," Hammonds added.
