One of the largest flat and toughened safety glass producers in Pakistan, Gunj Glass Works, has announced that it is to extend its activities with the establishment of a press ware plant for the production of tableware and glass blocks.
The company, which currently has two glass manufacturing plants, Gunj Glass Works and Ali Glass Industries, with a combined production capacity of 200 tons/day, is to set up the press ware plant in technical collaboration with UK supplier Penelectro, part of the Fives Stein group.
In addition, Gunj Glass Works's second toughened safety glass line is currently under installation, with a convection toughening furnace using radiant plate matrix heating technology and a PID power module. The company claims that the new line, which expected to begin commercial production from March, is the first installation of this type in Pakistan.
In November 2008, Glass International published a report on Pakistan's glass industry, unaware of Gunj Glass Works's recent developments. The company's director, Aamir Iqbal Shaikh, has since informed Glass International of its activities and future plans. Mr Iqbal Shaikh revealed that once commercial production has started at its new press ware division, plans are in place to convert the Gunj Glass furnace to a float line with a capacity of 240 tonnes/day.
