Liaoning flat glass exports delices 60%

According to the latest statistics of Shenyang Custom, during the first two months, Liaoning exports 1.54 million square meters of flat glass, declined by 63.8% year-on-year. The exports are valued 4,235,000 USD, down by 64%.

Although exports decline, the unit price of flat glass rises dramatically. In the previous two months, Liaoning flat glass exports volume drop from 909,000 square meters in January to 631,000 square meters in February, while the average price increases from 2.1 USD/m² in January to 3.6 USD/m².

Principal trade partners for exporting flat glass are changed in the two months. The leading export partners have been changed from Japan, Russia and Peru in 2008 to Sri Lanka, ASEAN and India. The export volumes are respectively 178,000 m², 163,000 m² and 162,000 m². Japan was the biggest importer of Liaoning’s flat glass in 2008, but in Jan. and Feb. 2009, the volume is only 8,500 m², fell by 98.8% over the same period of last year.

Up to now, Liaoning flat glass companies are mostly of low capacity. In the first two months of 2009, there are 29 companies exporting flat glass in Liaoning Province, among which 5 companies including an export broker account 80% of the total volume. Actually, there are more manufacturers in Liaoning.
