CSR to sell Viridian glass site

Post Time:Mar 30,2009Classify:Company NewsView:462

Building products giant CSR wants to sell its former Viridian automotive glass manufacturing site to make way for a residential resort and marina, Geelong Trades Hall Council secretary Tim Gooden said on March 27.

The site, at the corner of Melbourne Rd and Mackey St, North Geelong, backs onto Osborne Park, where plans for a marina are already mooted.

Mr Gooden said Trades Hall was deeply concerned about industry rumours that CSR is selling the North Geelong site to make a quick dollar.

“I understand that new glass manufacturers are interested in keeping the glass factory going and that at least one car giant will continue to buy glass from Geelong.  But CSR want to sell the land to a building developer for residential resort and marina,” Mr Gooden said.

He said the site would require rezoning and changes to Geelong’s Strategic Port Plan.
