Fuel surcharges to go down April 1

With a drop in the cost of natural gas in the first quarter of 2009 compared to the last quarter of 2008, U.S. float glass manufacturers have announced lower fuel surcharges per truckload, or 38,000 lb., effective April 1. In addition to the natural gas decrease, diesel fuel charges also have gone down.

AGC Flat Glass North America, Alpharetta, Ga., Guardian, Auburn Hills, Mich., Pilkington, Toledo, and PPG, Pittsburgh, have lowered their natural gas surcharges to $500 and diesel surcharges to $250, totaling $750.

Cardinal Glass Industries, Eden Prairie, Minn., has lowered its float and coated glass natural glass surcharges to $500 and diesel surcharges to $138, in total $638; and volume tempered and tempered coated glass natural gas surcharges to $560 and diesel surcharges to $138, totaling $698.

In the first quarter of 2008, fuel surcharges were $1,450.
