The First Float Glass Production Line in Shangdong Closed Down, Which Greatly Improved the Environment in Weihai

At 10:00am, on June 30, with the commanding officer’s order, Red-hot glass liquid flowed out from the float glass production line in Weihai Blue Star Glass Co., Ltd., which marked that the first float glass production line in our province really closed down. It is understood that this line’s shutting down could reduce 400t/year amount of SO2 and greatly improve the city’s environment.

Weihai Blue Star Glass Co., Ltd. located in Weihai city Economic Area was established in 1965. it was the first glass production company in our province. In 1985, according to government’s plan, Blue Star built up the first float glass production line in Changfeng Village that was designated as silicate industrial area. For more than 20 years, with the expansion of the city size and the adjustment of city plan, the former poor village has become a busy commercial and residential area. Railway stations, bus stations, high-end residences were built up closely near to the factory area. Due to the change of the area’s nature, the more people need the quality of the air to be improved, the sharper the air pollution problem coming from the glass production. The worker in Blue Star said that the exhaust gas produced during the glass production was including dust, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, etc. Untreated dust and sulfur dioxide in flue gas couldn’t meet the national standard. Therefore, Blue Star paid much attention on eliminating dust and sulfur dioxide.

This float glass production line should have been used until 2014. However, according to Weihai Government’s demand, relative departments decided to close it ahead of the time to at 10:00am, on June 30.
